Is there arsenic in our rice?
The answer is yes! Should you stop eating rice…..it would be wise to limit your consumption of rice. Further more, as studies have shown, not all rices types are equal. If you are buying White basmati rice from California, India, and Pakistan, and sushi rice from the U.S. on average has half of the inorganic-arsenic amount of most other types of rice.
According to resources brown rice has the most amount of arsenic due to arsenic accumulating in the grain’s outer layers, which are removed to make white rice. Brown has more nutrients, though, so you shouldn’t switch entirely to white.
So what are we to do?
Simply cooking rice like you would normally cook pasta. That is with a 6 to 1 rice water ratio, and then draining the extra water, you will eliminate some of the arsenic.
